Steering Between Unsocial Networks and Social Spam

The new systems from Google, MySpace and Facebook are meant to let sites around the Web offer social features, but at least at first they will not allow the most social of all activities: people talking to other people. The reason is that it is hard to be wide-open and still provide protections against spam and abuse.
